オーストラリア原産の原種で幾つかのバリエーション（他にもピンクの物等、数種が確認されている。）が有り、本種は花色からブルーギガンティア（通称名）とも呼ばれている。非常に大型である為「世界最大級ノスイレン」と紹介されることも多い。生育にはやや高温（22°Ｃ以上）と深い水深（最低60㎝以上が必要な為、育てやすいとは言い難いが、その特異性からも世界的にマニアには非常に人気の有る品種。(神代植物公園)
Nymphaea gigantea is a species of aquatic perennial herbaceous plant native to Australia and New Guinea. The plant is a tropical and substropical species that establishes tubers in the muddy bottoms of still waters; its leaves are round, and grow up to 75 cm in diameter, and the large flowers are blue-white(wikipedia).
